How to Use the Four Second Rule when Driving

Learn how to use the four second rule to make sure you have enough space to handle any situation while driving!

If you’re in the driver seat, then your life and the lives of your passengers is in your hands. That’s a lot of pressure.  Luckily, one driving technique can give you enough time and space to maneuver your vehicle through difficult situations. We want you to avoid crisis by being ready and prepared for anything. In addition to paying attention to the road and putting down your electronics (remember, texting and driving is illegal!) having a buffer between your car and the cars around you will give you more time to slow down or come to a sudden stop in a pinch — without colliding into the vehicle ahead of you! Practice a safe following distance with the four second rule.
